CTEGD Donates School Supplies for Clarke County Students

As the school year begins, many area children do not have the supplies they need. Faculty, staff, and students at CTEGD donated 14 backpacks and two boxes full of the essentials that students of the Clarke County School District will need this year. Additionally, gift cards were donated for the purchase of school uniforms and other necessities.

“The members of CTEGD do the kind of research and work that is on a global scale. We thought it would be nice to do something locally for Athens since we all live here and this is our community,” said Alexis Gibson, a graduate student in the Striepen Lab. “The school supply drive seemed like a good idea because a small act by our members could have a big impact on the education of local children.”

“Pack a Bag” was organized by members of Boris Striepen’s research group in conjunction with the Athens Area Homeless Shelter’s school supply drive.
